Tullylease swept past the challenge of Newmarket with a well deserved victory by 1-13 to 1-8, in the first round of the Kanturk CoOp Mart Duhallow Junior Hurling Championship game played in warm conditions at Kilbrin on Sunday afternoon.
In doing so, Tullylease avenged defeat in the divisional league final played between the sides, two weeks previously.
An excellent Newmarket junior hurling team created history and bridged a thirty one year gap, to claim the Kanturk Credit Union, Duhallow Junior Hurling League Final against a fine Tullylease side by 2-17 to 2-14 in a compelling contest played at Kanturk on Saturday evening.
A strong display in the final ten minutes from a sharper Tullylease side inflicted a first league defeat for the Newmarket hurlers, 2-20 to 2-16 in a high scoring league game played at Newmarket on Tuesday evening.
Newmarket completed their junior hurling league campaign with a home defeat against Tullylease by 1-20 to 1-15 on Friday night. Despite the result it was a battling and encouraging display from Newmarket on a wet, miserable, dark night for hurling.
Newmarket suffered a disappointing league defeat away to Tullylease on Wednesday evening when the home side were convincing winners by 2-15 to 0-10.
Newmarket’s hurlers bowed out of the EPS Bison Duhallow Junior Hurling Championship when they were defeated by Tullylease in a second round contest played at Meelin on Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-14.
