Seniors face relegation battle

Newmarket bowed out of the Cork County Senior Football Championship following a most disappointing defeat, by 1-8 to 0-5 against St. Vincents in a poor quality contest played at Mallow on Sunday afternoon. Newmarket now face an uphill battle and a relegation playoff encounter against St. Nicks in order to maintain their senior status. On a day of utter frustration, the fact that Newmarket held numerical advantage entering the closing fifteen minutes, when the sides were level and failed to register another score further compounds the misery.

Narrow defeat for seniors in championship

Newmarket went down to a narrow defeat against Aghada in the second round of the Cork County Senior Football Championship at Mourne Abbey on Saturday evening. A very strong breeze dictated the manner of the game, with the East Cork side holding out for a slender 1-8 to 0-9 victory.

St. Vincents hold out to claim league points

Newmarket completed preparations for next Saturday evening’s senior football championship encounter against Aghada, with a narrow home league defeat to St. Vincents on a miserable Sunday afternoon. Persistent rain and slippery conditions spoilt a tight contest, with the visitors edging the game by the narrowest of margins 1-7 to 0-9.

Seniors progress in Duhallow Cup

Newmarket overcame a stiff challenge from Boherbue to progress in a Duhallow Cup tie played in consistent mist and difficult conditions at Newmarket on Tuesday evening. Newmarket had to recover from a poor first half performance to emerge with a 1-12 to 2-6 victory in a keenly contested game.

Encouraging start for seniors
