In what was their second outing in the Duhallow Junior A Football championship, Newmarket feel short against Lyre after a promising first half in Kanturk on Sunday last.
Newmarket’s return to the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship after a long absence, ended in defeat to Lyre on Sunday morning.
Newmarket travelled to Banteer on Friday night, in search for their first win in the football junior A league.
A depleted Newmarket were somewhat unlucky to be defeated by Lyre in the Ducon Cup, played in wet and miserable conditions at Banteer on Sunday afternoon. The home side ended victors on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-6 but a wasteful Newmarket will rue ten first half wides when with the aid of the wind they failed to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities.
Despite a fine display in the opening half, Newmarket disappointingly fell short in the third quarter as Lyre ran out convincing winners by 0-17 to 1-5 in a Ducon Cup encounter played at a sunny Banteer venue on Sunday morning.
Newmarket were narrowly defeated by Lyre in their second outing of the minor football league in a fine contest played at Banteer on Wednesday evening where the home side emerged victors by the slenderest of margins, 1-10 to 1-9.
Newmarket were defeated by a very strong Lyre side in their opening league game at Banteer on Wednesday evening by 3-16 to 0-5.
Newmarket travelled to Banteer on Saturday evening to take on Lyre in the Ducon Cup and despite a good first half performance, Newmarket ended the hour on the receiving end of a heavy defeat, 0-18 to 0-4.
Newmarket Minor Footballers kicked back from a disappointing championship exit to qualify to the league final after defeating Lyre on a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-7 in Banteer last Sunday afternoon. The game was played in difficult and greasy conditions in Banteer which made for plenty handling errors and it was not a day for free flowing football.
Newmarket’s minor footballers left an early second half lead of seven points slip, as they went under to Lyre by 2-8 to 1-9 at Newmarket on Monday evening last.
