Newmarket got off to a disaterous start when they conceded a goal within thirty seconds of the throw in, with a point quickly following. Newmarket settled and three points from Colin O’Sullivan left a solitary point the margin after eighteen minutes. Freemount hit the next three points before Colin O’Sullivan was again on target. Another Freemount point left the score 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval.
