Newmarket started their 2016 Division 2 league campaign with a trip to newly crowned county intermediate champions Fermoy. Down several key players through injury, Newmarket were boosted by the return of Bart Daly who was on reprieve from Cork Senior Football duties.
Newmarket’s under 21 footballers created history when they defeated Fermoy in the replayed semi final and thus qualify for the Evening Echo County Under 21 Football Final for the very first time. An impressive all round display ended in a victory of 1-11 to 0-7 at Mallow on Friday evening.
The Newmarket under 21 football team advanced to the County Final tonight after beating Fermoy in Mallow on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-07. Having led 0-08 to 0-03 at half time, Newmarket were never behind. They now meet St. Finbarrs in the decider.

Newmarket led for fifty minutes, from the fourth minute but were grateful to settle for a draw despite holding a five point lead at the interval.
