Duhallow junior football semi-final report of 1998

Newmarket qualified to meet Millstreet in the Duhallow football final, when a late goal proved crucial in their two point victory over Kanturk in a thrilling semi-final played before a big attendance (gate receipts £4,020) at Boherbue on Sunday.

The goal came a minute before the end of normal time, when Michael Cottrell took the ball on a solo run through the Kanturk defence before giving goalkeeper Colman Lane no chance with a shot from close range.

Culloty inspires Newmarket to victory.

Strong finish ends Kiskeam’s reign as Duhallow junior football champions.

NEWMARKET qualified for the semi-final of the Duhallow junior football championship when a strong finish took them to victory over reigning champions Kiskeam in a hard-fought game played before a big attendance at Kanturk on Sunday.

Kiskeam led by a point with a quarter of an hour to go, but from then on Newmarket were the dominant side, shooting seven points to Kiskeam’s two to win by a four-point margin.

Amazing comeback from Newmarket

A GREAT comeback in the closing stages, which saw them scoring 1-3 without reply in the last six minutes, gave Newmarket a point victory over Boherbue in a thrilling Duhallow under 21 football final at Castlemagner on Tuesday evening.

It was a huge turnabout in the fortunes of the teams, for Boherbue had led by six points at half time, and when they were still five in front facing into the closing stages it is doubtful if even the most optimistic Newmarket supporters gave their team a chance of winning.

Late Flourish Puts End To Millstreet’s rallying Cry

Newmarket regained the Duhallow minor football title after a lapse of 23 years when they turned in a very impressive performance to beat Millstreet by an eight-point margin before a big attendance at Cullen last Saturday evening.

NEWMARKET survived their first hurdle in the county junior football championship in impressive style at Mourneabbey on Sunday when they had seven points to spare over Passage, the Seandún champions, in a game that never generated any great excitement. (more…)

Newmarket’s day of glory

IT was a long wait, but when the final whistle sounded at Banteer on Sunday, leaving Newmarket Duhallow football champions for the first time in 23 years, it all seemed worth it to the players and their legion of supporters who swarmed on to the pitch to celebrate a momentous achievement.

GOALS in the last twenty minutes by Mark O’Sullivan and Sean Culloty proved crucial in Newmarket’s victory over Kanturk in an Examiner Cup football final that proved highly entertaining for a big attendance (gate receipt were over £1,000) at Rockchapel on Sunday.

Newmarket win a thrilling Examiner Cup final

NEWMARKET won a memorable Examiner Cup final with almost the last kick of their game against Boherbue at Kanturk on Sunday evening. Played before a large attendance in ideal conditions, it was a contest that provided wonderful entertainment for the big attendance, with both teams showing tremendous determination in their quest for the trophy.

This was an Historic Day for Newmarket

NEWMARKET won their first county junior football championship title at Macroom on Sunday when they defeated Adrigole by two points in a game that gripped the interest of the big attendance from the very start and held it until Jimmy Dennigan of Fermoy sounded the final whistle. It was a game that provided a fine standard of football and exemplary sportsmanship, even when tension was at breaking point and the issue hung on a slender thread.

Newmarket were never in trouble

NEWMARKET qualified to meet either Grange or Douglas in the semi-final of the county junior football championship when they scored an easy win (1-11 to 0-5) over Valley Rovers at Coachford on Sunday. The Duhallow champions were in control right through the game and their margin would have been far greater if it hadn’t been for very erratic shooting.

Three in a row for Newmarket

NEWMARKET became the first team to win the Duhallow junior football championship three years in succession when they defeated Dromtariffe by 1-8 to 1-3 in a hard-fought final played before a very large attendance at Banteer on Sunday. They led at the interval by 0-6 to 0-1.

Newmarket took title in final spoiled by gale

NEWMARKET won their second successive Duhallow junior football title and their fifth in all, when they overcame Ballydesmond’s challenge by 1-7 to 0-6 in a final which was completely spoiled by a gale force wind at Millstreet on Sunday.

It was so easy for Newmarket

A Duhallow football final that was expected to provide a close game turned out to be a very one-sided affair at Millstreet on Sunday, when Newmarket completely out-played Knocknagree and ran out the easiest winners on a score 3-12 to 0-2.

NEWMARKET won the 1968 Examiner Cup final at Banteer on Sunday when they defeated the holders Cullen, by 1-6 to 0-1 in a game that provided the crowd with great amusement.
