Late goal earns draw for Glanmire

A last gasp Glanmire goal deep into injury time, denied Newmarket their first victory in this years Premier Intermediate Football League and earned a draw for the home side, 2-9 to 1-12 in blustery, wintery conditions, at Glanmire on Monday last.

Minor footballers draw in first league outing

Newmarkets minor footballers hung on for a draw at windswept Bweeng on Monday evening, to draw in their first league outing of the campaign, 2-4 to 1-7 against Kilshannig.

Heavy defeat in terrible weather conditions

Newmarket were defeated by Ballydesmond, 2-8 to 0-3 in their second Ducon Cup game played in terrible weather conditions, at Ballydesmond on Sunday.

Coming Fixtures

The junior footballers are away to Ballydesmond on Sunday, the 18th of March, at 3:00pm.

The minor footballers begin their season on Monday, the 19th of March, in the league against Kilshannig in Kilshannig at 5:00pm.

Finally, the under 21 footballers will play the winners of this weekend’s quarter-final match between Knocknagree and Kiskeam in the championship semi-final on Saturday the 24th of March.

Opening Day Loss for Juniors in Ducon Cup

Newmarket travelled to Rockchapel on Saturday, for their first outing in this years Ducon Cup, with the home side emerging victorious by 3-7 to 1-10.

Nemo Win Well

On Sunday the Premier Intermediate football league saw Newmarket play Nemo Rangers at Meelin on a fantastic playing surface. It was Newmarkets first outing and they suffered a 6-10 to 0-3 drubbing.

Under 21 Footballers March On

Newmarket’s under 21 footballers got the playing season off to a terrific start when they recorded a comprehensive 3-15 to 0-4 victory over defending champions Kiskeam, in a repeat of last years final at Rockchapel on Saturday.

Coming Fixtures

Newmarket’s under 21 and intermediate footballers are in action this coming weekend.

The under 21s play Kiskeam in the championship at Rockchapel, 3pm Sat 3rd March. The intermediates go up against Nemo Rangers in the league at home, 3:30pm Sun 4th March.

Defence of County Minor A League Title Ends After Extra Time

Newmarket’s minor footballers brave defence of their county minor A league title came to an end , when they were defeated by Mitchelstown, 3-8 to 0-13 after a titanic struggle, that required extra time to separate the sides at Mitchelstown on Saturday last.

Newmarket draw Killavullen in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship 2007

The draw for the 2007 championships took place at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday evening. Newmarket have been drawn to meet Killavullen in the Premier Intermediate football championship, reviving memories of the 1998 county junior football final and a historic day for the Newmarket club. The sides most recent championship meeting was in 2003 when it took a replay to decide the issue when Newmarket progressing in the end. The losers
of the first round contest will meet the losers of Clyda Rovers or Glanmire in the second round.

Minors Retain League To Complete Double Double

Newmarket’s minor footballers retained their Duhallow league title and in the process completed a championship and league double in the division for the second year in succession. In the final at Kanturk on Sunday, they defeated the home side by 1-11 to 1-7 in a repeat of the championship final. 2006 Minor League Champions

The home side began brightly putting two points on the scoreboard. Newmarket were slow to settle and depended on their rearguard during the first half with John Scanlon and David Guiney in outstanding form throughout the hour. Nicky Flanagan converted a free after seventeen minutes for Newmarkets first score with Kanturk quick to regain their two point lead. John Lane punched a point for Newmarket but Kanturk again responded with a fourth point. Newmarket finished the half very well with points from Nicky Flanagan and John Ryan tieing the sides for the first time in the game. Newmarket maintained their momentum and driven on by the forward surges of Bart Daly they took the lead for the first time through a Jerry McCarthy point. Nicky Flanagan was again on target to leave Newmarket in front by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time. (more…)

Minors Fight Back, but County Quest is Over

Newmarket’s minor footballers quest for county honours ended when they were defeated by a strong Carbery Rangers side, 1-11 to 1-8 in the quarter final played at Macroom on Saturday evening last.

Minors Make it Three in a Row

Newmarket’s minor footballers created history when they claimed their third successive Duhallow championship and eighth title in total when defeating Kanturk by 1-10 to 2-4 in a keenly contested final played at Dromtariffe on Sunday.

Minors March into Final

Newmarket’s minor footballers qualified for a third successive Duhallow final when they edged past Knocknagree in a gripping, titanic semi final at Castlemagner on Sunday, which went to extra time before ending 1-12 to 0-13 in the defending champions favour.
