Newmarket men in the Blood and Bandage

Despite a two point defeat for the Cork junior footballers against Kerry in the Munster Semi Final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday, it proved to be a historic fixture for Newmarket GAA Club. By the end of the contest, Newmarket had three players on the Cork team while Danny Culloty was involved as a selector. Brian O’Riordan lined out at left corner back while John Lane took his place at left corner forward. As the game entered the final ten minutes, the introduction of John Ryan brought the Newmarket representation to three. Well done to all involved and hopefully all will again grace the red jersey in the near future.

League campaign ends with impressive win

Newmarket rounded off the Ducon Cup campaign with a very impressive home victory over Dromtariffe by 2-9 to 0-6 on a sunny Sunday afternoon, which owed much to a fantastic team effort from one to fifteen.

Junior footballers slow start proves costly

Newmarket failed to recover from a productive Millstreet scoring return in the opening quarter, as the home side held sway to claim the Ducon Cup points at stake on Friday evening by 0-11 to 0-7.

Minor footballers win with second half comeback

Newmarket’s minor footballers withstood a late barrage of Knocknagree pressure to hold out for a 2-14 to 2-11 league victory at Knocknagree on Thursday evening. It was a win fashioned out of a terrific second half performance as Newmarket turned around a half time deficit of six points in a resounding manner.

Newmarket defeated in Evening Echo Senior Football Championship

Newmarket were defeated in their initial outing of the Evening Echo Senior Football Championship at Mallow on Saturday evening, where a devastating display and scoring return in the final quarter by St. Finbarrs gave the city team a commanding and clear cut victory by 0-17 to 0-6. The final scoreline was harsh and scant reward on a Newmarket performance which kept them in touch up until the closing fifteen minutes, when their illustrious opponents stormed to the finish with an array of outstanding points.

Newmarket, despite defeat, put in a very commendable performance away to Rockchapel in the Ducon Cup on Tuesday evening, where the home side emerged with victory from a high scoring contest by 1-16 to 1-10.

Lane points the way

An exhibition of point taking and forward play from Newmarket’s outstanding John Lane enabled Newmarket to earn a hard fought home league victory over Glanmire by 0-16 to 0-11 on Saturday evening. The magnificent corner forward recorded a tally of eight points, seven from play and indeed the free was also of high quality finishing.

Disappointing performance for seniors against Eire Og

Late rally sees off Emmets

An instant goal and a deluge of well taken wind assisted first half points proved instrumental as home side Knocknagree resisted a valiant Newmarket comeback in a Ducon Cup contest played on Friday evening. Knocknagree came out in top of the proverbial game of two halves by 1-12 to 1-6.
