Fundraiser, membership and upcoming fixture

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Newmarket and Meelin GAA Clubs are holding a joint fundraiser in the form of a boxing encounter: “Showdown of the County Champions” to be held in Safari’s Nite Club on Friday, February 22nd. A great nights entertainment is ensured as fifteen bouts between various individuals from both clubs is on the bill to be followed by a disco. Tickets are priced at €20 each and are available for purchase shortly.

Membership of the club is now due for renewal. The cost for 2013 is as follows: Players €50, Adults €30, Students €25.

The draw for this year’s Tadhg Crowley Cup competition has taken place and Newmarket’s senior footballers face a long journey to take on current Cork County Senior Football Champions, Castlehaven on the weekend of January 19th.

The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place in the Clubhouse meeting room on Sunday last. Outgoing chairman Victor Lane welcomed those present before the minutes of the previous years AGM were read and adapted.

Minor footballers advance to final

Newmarket withstood the challenge of Mill Rovers to progress to the final of the North Cork Minor B Football Championship after a semi final victory by 1-12 to 0-7 at Liscarroll on Thursday evening.

Hurlers progress to Singleton Cup final

A high scoring return at the end of each half enabled Newmarket’s junior hurlers to overcome the challenge of Lismire by 2-20 to 0-11 in the Singleton Cup semi final played at Newmarket on Monday evening.

Junior b hurlers defeated by Banteer

A goal in either half proved decisive as Banteer overcame Newmarket’s challenge by 2-10 to 0-10 in a well contested junior B league game played in Banteer on Wednesday evening.

League campaign ends with impressive win

Newmarket rounded off the Ducon Cup campaign with a very impressive home victory over Dromtariffe by 2-9 to 0-6 on a sunny Sunday afternoon, which owed much to a fantastic team effort from one to fifteen.

Defeat for hurlers in final league game

Newmarket completed their junior hurling league campaign with a home defeat against Tullylease by 1-20 to 1-15 on Friday night. Despite the result it was a battling and encouraging display from Newmarket on a wet, miserable, dark night for hurling.

Hurlers defeated in scrappy encounter

Newmarket were defeated by Kilbrin in their latest outing in the junior hurling league at sunny Kilbrin on Sunday afternoon, the home side claiming a scrappy encounter in comfortable fashion by 3-11 to 1-5.

Junior footballers slow start proves costly

Newmarket failed to recover from a productive Millstreet scoring return in the opening quarter, as the home side held sway to claim the Ducon Cup points at stake on Friday evening by 0-11 to 0-7.

Minor footballers win with second half comeback

Newmarket’s minor footballers withstood a late barrage of Knocknagree pressure to hold out for a 2-14 to 2-11 league victory at Knocknagree on Thursday evening. It was a win fashioned out of a terrific second half performance as Newmarket turned around a half time deficit of six points in a resounding manner.

Newmarket, Cork Premier Intermediate Football Champions 2011, now on sale

Newmarket, Cork Premier Intermediate Football Champions 2011 – the book, mapping Newmarket’s historic county title success last October was launched on Saturday night, at Dan Hourigan’s Bar.

The publication follows the fairytale journey of the Newmarket footballers to ultimate glory in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The 120 page colour publication contains match reports, player profiles, intermediate championship records and stats and several photographs all savouring the memorable historic achievement. The book is priced at €15 and is available from a number of local retail outlets as well as club officers.

Newmarket GAA News, February 2012

The Newmarket Intermediate football team were honoured in receiving the Corkman/Charleville Park Hotel sports award for October 2011 after winning the county premier intermediate football championship. A delegation from the club was present at a function in the Charleville Park Hotel on Friday night where the monthly award winners were present, representing various and diverse sporting disciplines and achievements. Congratulations to the Charleville junior hurling team that claimed the overall award and we wish them every success in their quest for All Ireland glory on Saturday evening next at Croke Park.

Membership of the club is now up for renewal. The fees for the year are Players €30, Adults €25, Students €20 and can be paid to any member of the club committee.

Tickets are now available for the Newmarket GAA Victory Social which will take place in the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday, February 25th. The county Premier Intermediate football champions will be presented with their winning medals on the night. The meal will be served at 7:30pm and musical entertainment will be provided by THE CELT. Tickets are priced at €30 each and are available from various outlets and club officers.

Newmarket GAA news, January 2012

Membership of the club is now up for renewal. The fees for the year are Players €30, Adults €25, Students €20 and can be paid to any member of the club committee.

The Newmarket footballers will have their first outing as a senior club in the Tadhg Crowley Cup on the week ending January 29th. Newmarket received a bye to round 2 and must await the victors of the first round clash between Dohenys and Newcestown on the previous weekend. The fixture will be an away game for Newmarket.

The much awaited club victory social will take place in the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday, February 25th. Tickets are priced at €30 each and will be available for purchase in the very near future.

Victory Celebration Dance

Newmarket GAA Club will be running a Victory Celebration Dance on Thursday, December 29th at Hourigan’s Lounge commencing at 9:30pm. Music will be provided by David John & Dave. Tickets are priced at €10 and proceeds will go towards a training fund for the Newmarket team that brought the County Premier Intermediate title to the club last October.
