Upcoming AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club will take place on Sunday, November 29th at 3:30pm in the clubhouse meeting room. All club members are requested to attend.

Congratulations to the Duhallow under 21 hurling team that won the County Under 21 hurling championship final against Ballinhassig at Páirc Ui Rinn on Saturday.  Congratulations to all involved and especially the Newmarket contingent in the panel, Kevin O’Sullivan, Nicky Flanagan and John Ryan.

The gallery has been updated with photos of the Newmarket GAA 2009 Cúl Camp, held from the 17th to 21st of August. The event was attended by Cork players Donnacha O’Connor and Michael Shields.

Christophers, North American Champions

Further congratulations go to Christophers GAA of Boston Massachusetts, on winning the North American Senior Football Championship against Parnells of Chicago on an impressive scoreline of 4-15 to 0-07 last weekend.

Congratulations to Christophers Boston Champions

Congratulations to Christophers GAA of Boston Massachusetts, on winning the Senior Football Championship for the first time in their 22 year history. A powerful second half performance against Shannon Blues brought victory on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-08, on Sunday last.

Fundraiser in San Francisco

Friends and supporters of Newmarket GAA Club gathered in the United Cultural Centre in San Francisco last month where they held a fundraiser for the club.

The result of the raffle draw on the night was 1st Prize: XL GAA Jacket, Sarah Burke James; 2nd Prize: L GAA Windbreaker: Brendan Kenneally, 3rd Prize: Bottle of Jameson and GAA book: Tom O’Callaghan, Other Prizes: Bottle of Wine and GAA Book: Kevin Breslin, John Hickey, Ellen Kearney, Frank Moynihan, Brian Guiney.

Newmarket GAA Club are very grateful to the organising committee and was delighted to receive the proceeds from the event.

Newmarket defeated in exciting hurling final

Newmarket’s hurlers were defeated by Meelin in an excellent Singleton Cup final played in perfect conditions at Newmarket on Sunday evening by 3-13 to 2-14.

Newmarket GAA to celebrate Lá nag Club

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Newmarket GAA Club will celebrate Lá nag Club, 125 Years of the GAA on Sunday next, May 10th. An open day will commence at 2pm, where a Poc Fada, Long Kick and Free Taking competitions will take place for minor, under 21 and adult players. At 3pm a football game will take place between the Newmarket under 21 teams from 1998-2001 and the Newmarket under 21 teams from 2007-2009 who shared seven Duhallow championships between them.

Congratulations to Bart Daly and fellow Duhallow representatives, Aidan Walsh, John McLoughlin and Lorcán McLoughlin and to the Cork under 21 football team on winning the All Ireland final against Down at Portlaoise on Monday, by 1-13 to 2-9.

Congratulations to Bart Daly on winning a Munster Under 21 Football Championship medal on Saturday last when Cork beat Tipperary in Thurles with an injury time goal in the final.

Newmarket GAA legend passes away

The club was saddened to hear the news that broke last Wednesday morning that the legendary Jimmy Cross, author of the History of Newmarket GAA had passed away.

Newmarket GAA victory social 2008

Newmarket GAA Club held a victory social at the Hi Land function room on Friday evening last were pride of place went to the under 21 football team that retained the Duhallow championship in 2008 and also created history by reaching the County final where they finished runners up to St. Finbarr’s.

2008 Victory Social

Newmarket GAA Club will be holding a Victory Social in the Hi Land Function Room on Friday, February 6th. The successful under 21 football team that retained the Duhallow championship will be presented with their medals on the night.

A buffet meal will be served at 8pm sharp and musical entertainment will be provided by Happy Hearts. Tickets are priced at €20 each and are available from committee members.

2008 Club AGM Report

The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place recently at the clubhouse meeting room.

Outgoing Chairperson Mary Stack opened the meeting by welcoming all present. Life President Con Collins congratulated the successful under 21 football team on winning the Duhallow championship for a second successive year and Conor Cronin on winning an All Ireland Vocational Schools football medal with Cork. He also congratulated Conor on representing the Cork minor footballers and Bart Daly on being a member of the Cork under 21 football panel. He thanked the juvenile club for their contribution during the year and paid tribute to Chairperson Mary Stack and the outgoing committee for the continued redevelopment of the clubs grounds.

Newmarket draw St Vincents in the first round of the 2009 county championship

The draw took place on Saturday evening at the Cork County Board annual convention for the first round of the 2009 county championships, with Newmarket especially interested in the outcome of the draw for the Premier Intermediate football championship.

Newmarket were pitted against St. Vincent’s in a repeat of this years evenly contested semi final, when the city side emerged with a slender victory by 1-9 to 1-8 at Mallow on August 17th. The defeated side in this clash will meet either Newcestown or Nemo Rangers in round two.

County Champions 1998

December 6th 1998 will live long in the memories of everyone in Newmarket. Its been 10 years since that great day, and to mark the occasion NewmarketGAA.com will be posting the reports from all the championship games in 1998.

Starting on Sunday we will post a report on the Kiskeam game, followed by the other Duhallow championship games. On Wednesday we will have the game against Crosshaven, when Newmarket played in Meelin jerseys. Then it will be the 2 games against Brian Dillons. Finally on Saturday December 6th 2008, 10 years after the match, we will post the report from the final itself, played before 10,000 spectators in Charleville.
