A heroic effort from Newmarket’s hurlers saw them narrowly defeated by Kilbrin in their second game in this years Duhallow championship by 2-15 to 2-13, after an entertaining game at Kanturk on Friday evening.
A gallant Newmarket team were eventually well put away by Millstreet , 0-19 to 1-6 in the first game of the EPS Bison Duhallow hurling championship game, played in ideal conditions at a resplendent Banteer on Saturday evening.
Newmarket’s junior hurlers are in championship action on Saturday evening when they take on Millstreet in Banteer at 7pm. The group of four also contains Kilbrin and Tullylease.
Newmarkets hurlers were defeated by Tullylease in their final league game by 2-17 to 0-7 at Newmarket on Monday evening.
Newmarket were defeated by Kilbrin in the Kanturk CU league game played at Newmarket on Saturday evening by 2-13 to 0-9.
Well done to Anthony Crowley who was a member of the Duhallow senior hurling team that defeated Carbery impressively in the County Championship last week and to Kevin O’Sullivan a member of the Cork Vocational Schools hurling squad that defeated Galway.
Newmarkets hurlers travelled to Freemount on Friday night and were defeated by 2-12 to 0-8. Newmarket got off to a disaterous start when they conceded a goal within thirty seconds of the throw in, with a point quickly following. Newmarket settled and three points from Colin O’Sullivan left a solitary point the margin after eighteen minutes. Freemount hit the next three points before Colin O’Sullivan was again on target. Another Freemount point left the score 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval.
Newmarket were defeated 1-13 to 2-5 by Millstreet in their opening game of the Kanturk Credit Union junior hurling league, played in perfect conditions at Newmarket on Sunday.

Culloty’s goal clinched title for Newmarket
NEWMARKET regained the Duhallow Junior hurling league title after a lapse of six years, their last victory having been in 1977, when they defeated Meelin by 2 two-point margin in a hard-fought final at Banteer on Sunday.
Newmarket took on Tullylease in the first round of the Junior A hurling championship on the 16th of June 1968 in Kanturk, Newmarket advanced to the second round on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-01.
Newmarket took on Tullylease in the semi final replay of the Junior A hurling championship on the 13th of August 1967 in Kanturk, Tullylease advanced to the final on a scoreline of 1-09 to 5-06.
Newmarket took on Tullylease in the semi final of the Junior A hurling championship on the 23rd of July 1967 in Kanturk, the game ended all square on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-10.
Newmarket took on Kilbrin in the first round of the Junior A hurling championship on the 25th of June 1967 in Kanturk, Newmarket advanced to the semi final on a scoreline of 6-04 to 2-00.
Newmarket took on Meelin in the first round of the Junior A hurling championship on the 10th of July 1966 in Kanturk, Meelin went on to win the match on a scoreline of 0-05 to 4-10.

By the narrow margin of two points, a strong Glen Rovers team put Newmarket out of the Minor Hurling County Final at Mallow on Sunday before an attendance that was remarkably small for a semi-final game.

Newmarket win second divisional title
Newmarket won their second divisional title by defeating Kanturk (holders) by 3-05 to 1-03 in a thrilling Duhallow junior hurling final at Newmarket GAA Grounds on Sunday. Newmarket regained the title last held by them in 1948 and became the first Duhallow club ever to annex divisional hurling and football honours in the same year.
