A bright opening ten minutes saw Newmarket open a 1-04 to 0-02 lead in their round 2 tie against Freemount on Sunday afternoon, with points from Ryan O’Keeffe, Donal Hannon and Rory Lynn (2) adding to Darren O’Keeffe’s well taken goal.

The home side continued to dominate through scores from Kevin O’Sullivan, Donal Hannon (2), Darren and Conor O’Keeffe, with a Rory Lynn goal on 22 minutes cementing Newmarket’s strong lead, 2-09 to 0-04. A brace from Darren O’Keeffe completed Newmarket’s scoring for the half with Freemount producing a strong finish, to trail 2-11 to 0-10 at the interval.

The home side continued to take scoring opportunities into the second half through Donal Hannon (3), Conor O’Keeffe, Barry O’Connor (3) and Darren O’Keeffe (2), amassing a 2-20 to 0-15 at the three quarter stage. Further points from substitute O’Connor (2) and Darren O’Keeffe ensured Newmarket maintained a comfortable advantage heading into the last five minutes. Paddy Browne and Donal Hannon completed the home side’s tally and confirmed the 2-25 to 0-17 win.
