The Newmarket junior A hurlers opened their league campaign at home to Dromtarriffe on Friday night last.

A combination of Rory Lynn, Donal Hannon and Ryan O’Keeffe gave Newmarket an early three point lead. The vistors replied well with Newmarket requiring an 11th minute Donal Hannon free to level up the contest. Moments later the home side bagged the first of four goals with Ryan O’Keeffe finishing well. Points from Barry O’Connor, Ryan O’Keeffe, Rory Lynn (2) and Mikey Browne pushed Newmarket’s advantage out to seven on 20 minutes. A strong closing period, with a brace of points from Donal Hannon and 1-01 from Darren O’Keeffe, ensured Newmarket led 2-12 to 0-09 at the break.

The hosts continued to dominate the scoring in the second half with Barry O’Connor, Donal Hannon, Conor O’Keeffe and substitute Paddy Browne on target. Newmarket’s third goal of the evening came on 44 minutes when full forward Rory Lynn rattled the Dromtarriffe net. With substitute Colin O’Sullivan pointing on the 52nd minute, Newmarket commanded a strong 3-17 to 0-15 lead. Shortly after Ryan O’Keeffe registered his second goal of the match and O’Keeffe completed the scoring on 58th minutes to confirm his side’s convincing 4-18 to 0-15 opening league win.
