Footballers round off league campaign with a win
The Newmarket senior footballers travelled to the city on Sunday morning, to take on St. Vincents in the final round of the Cork Credit Unions sponsored county league.
The initial phases of the contest proved to be relatively even, with the Duhallow side marginally ahead at the quarter hour mark, 1-03 to 0-05. A further goal minutes later stretched Newmarket’s advantage further and they lead 2-08 to 0-07, at the short whistle.
An unanswered 1-05 in the opening ten minutes of the second half galvanised the visitors position and they held a comfortable 3-15 to 0-08 lead, entering into the closing stages. Another goal and a point confirmed the high scoring 4-16 to 0-11 win, with all attention now switching to the championship ahead.
