Junior Bs suffer opening league defeat against strong Freemount side
The Newmarket Junior Bs were out goaled by Freemount, in the opening round of the Duhallow hurling league.
The clash, which was played in Newmarket on the evening of the 24th, was an even but low scoring contest for much of the first half, with Freemount narrowly leading by 0-04 to 1-02, after 15 minutes. The visitors had the better of the scoring for the remainder of the half and entered the dressing rooms 0-06 to 2-06 ahead, at the break.
A bright opening second period saw both sides add to their tallies, but a third Freemount goal meant that they held a controlling 1-10 to 3-09 lead, as the match entered the final ten minutes. A fourth and final green flag minutes later, secured a 1-12 to 4-11 victory for the away side. Newmarket can take positives from the contest and look ahead to the rest of the campaign, with Paul Verling contributing a fine 1-05 and the team showing well against Freemount’s first fifteen.
