Newmarket Players Help CFC Banteer to Cup Success
Congratulations to Newmarket sportsmen, Daniel Culloty, Nicky Barrett, Robert and Brendan Stack, who achieved Cup glory at the famed Turners Cross, on Sunday night.
Lining out in CFC Banteer colours, they contested the Cork AUL County Cup Final against Richmond AFC, with both sides bringing form into the final. Banteer currently lead League 1, with Richmond AFC the pace setters in League 2.
At the first whistle, Brendan Stack and Nicky Barrett took up positions at the back, with Daniel Culloty occupying midfield. It was the Banteer side who registered the first goal of the final, scoring on 20 minutes, through Chris Taylor. As the half drew to a close, Brendan Stack created an opening for Liam O’Brien to double the lead and he duly accepted the chance. It was O’Brien again on 70 minutes with a cool finish, to stretch the advantage to three. With the contest drawing to a close, O’Brien was replaced by Robert Stack on 78 minutes and it didn’t take him long to find the net, producing a powerful header two minutes later. Richmond continued to battle on and their endeavour was rewarded with a consolation goal, deep into injury time, but it mattered not to CFC Banteer, as they had secured a historic win.
Congratulations again to the Newmarket contingent and all involved at CFC Banteer on a fantastic achievement.
