Robert Emmets Qualify for the Duhallow Final

The Newmarket and Lismire combination qualified for the Duhallow U21 A Football final, after a six point win over Sliabh Luachra Gaels on Saturday last.

Robert Emmets started brightly, with a point from Michael Lane followed by a goal from center forward, Rory Sheahan, after five minutes. Gaels produced the next five scores, to lead 1-01 to 0-06 at the twenty minute mark. A strong closing period, with 1-01 from the boot of Adam Birtley and a point from Jamie Kenneally, meant Emmets went into the break ahead, 2-03 to 0-07.

The momentum stayed with Emmets after the restart, with points from Dave Cottrell (3), Rory and Jack Sheahan, pushing the advantage to double scores, 2-08 to 0-07. A 51st minute goal from the Ballydesmond and Kiskeam amalgamation narrowed the gap, but late points from Adam Birtley and Dave Cottrell ensured Robert Emmets secured their place in the final, with the Banteer scoreboard reading 2-10 to 1-07, at the final whistle.

The team now return to the Banteer next Saturday at 7:30pm, to contest the Central Sports Kanturk sponsored final, where they will take on Croke Rovers for the title. Best of luck to the team and their mentors.
