Hurlers bow out of Duhallow Cup
The Newmarket and Dromtarriffe hurlers travelled to Meelin on Wednesday night, the 21st of July, to contest the semi final of the inaugural Hannon’s Mace Duhallow Hurling Cup.
Gavin Forde opened the evening’s scoring, with a free on the second minute. Some quick shooting from Dromtarriffe saw them register the next three points. Newmarket replied with a brace from Forde, just before Dromtarriffe scored the first of their five goals. With fifteen minutes played, another Forde free meant his side trailed, 0-04 to 1-04. Further scores by Dromtarriffe were again followed by a Forde free on twenty minutes, to close the gap to six points. A well taken Michael Cottrell goal on 21 minutes reduced the arrears to just three points, but the remainder of the half belonged to Dromtarriffe, as they clocked up 2-12 to Newmarket’s 1-05.
Dromtarriffe continued the second period in the same vein, and despite further scores from Gavin Forde, they lead 1-07 to 5-16 on 45 minutes. Newmarket produced late pints from Michael Cottrell and Robert Stack, but Dromtarriffe ran out comfortable winners, on a scoreline of 1-09 to 5-24.
