Youthful U21s lose out to Kanturk
A youthful U21 Newmarket hurling team took on Kanturk in the first round of the Championship on Tuesday, the 7th of July.
Playing at home, Daragh Lynn opened Newmarket’s account early on. This was followed by some quick scoring by the visitors, allowing them open a 0-01 to 1-05 lead. Newmarket replied through Jamie Kenneally and later with a Mikey Browne point, but Kanturk’s firepower allowed them to build a strong position in the match. A late Mikey Browne free meant his side trailed 0-04 to 2-13, on the 30 minute mark.
Into the second, period Browne kept producing scores for his side, with four further points, but Kanturk’s advantage stretched further. A late Paudie O’Sullivan point was followed shortly after by an injury time free by Browne, bringing Newmarket’s final total to ten points. Alas, a dominant Kanturk amassed an impressive 4-21 over the hour, to win out.
