The home side started off in dominant fashion, with early scores from Gavin Forde and Ryan O’Keeffe, quickly followed by a goal from Barry O’Connor. A further point from Forde, gave his side an impressive 1-03 to 0-01 lead, with just four minutes on the clock. Freemount then entered their own period of strength, scoring the next four points. A free from Gavin Forde, was quickly followed up by a brace of scores from the visiting side, to level up the competition on fourteen minutes. On two further occasions, Forde put his side ahead, only to see his efforts cancelled out by Freemount. With the game entering the 23rd minute, Barry O’Connor regained the lead for Newmarket, a position they would not relinquish, for the remainder of the match. A hat-trick of points from Forde, ensured the home side took a 1-10 to 0-11, into the break.

Gavin Forde continued where he left off in the first half, trading early scores with the visitors, who, on 45 minutes, narrowed the margin to just a point, 1-12 to 0-14. The pattern persisted into the last five minutes of the competition, with Forde’s accuracy at placed balls maintaining his side’s lead. Newmarket’s talisman added three further frees, to bring his impressive total to 15 points, with time almost up. A late reply from Freemount brought an end to the contest, with Newmarket holding out, to win 1-17 to 0-18.
