Free scoring Ryan O’Keeffe stars for Footballers
The Newmarket Junior A Footballers opened their league account, with a win over Knocknagree, on Thursday evening, the 18th of June.
Playing away from home, Ryan O’Keeffe got Newmarket off to a bright start, with a point from play in the opening minute, followed by a free shortly after. Knocknagree responded well with a brace of scores, levelling up the game on seven minutes. Cathal Browne quickly restored Newmarket’s lead, but Knocknagree grew in confidence, scoring five unanswered points, to lead 0-03 to 0-08 after nineteen minutes. The visitors rallied, scoring the next two points, with scores from the boot of David Cottrell and Eddie Allen. The sides then traded further scores, with Ryan O’Keeffe on target for Newmarket, to leave the scoreboard reading 0-06 to 0-09, at the short whistle.
