Junior Footballers Lose to Near Neighbours

The Newmarket Junior Footballers hosted Boherbue on Thursday the 10th of June last, in the first round of the Ducon Cup, with the fixture also acting as the first round of the Duhallow Cup.

The visitors got off to the ideal start, with two early goals, with Newmarket points from TJ Bodie and Ryan O’Keeffe in between. A further score from Tony O’Keeffe on 17 minutes, left Newmarket trailing 0-03 to 2-02. Paudie Allen re-ignited Newmarket’s challenge on 24 minutes. with a well worked goal. This was followed by frees from the boot of TJ Bodie and Ryan O’Keeffe, narrowing Boherbue’s lead at the interval to just a point, 1-05 to 2-03.

As was the case in the first half, Boherbue hit the back of the Newmarket net with an early goal. The home side responded well, with scores from John Ryan, Ryan O’Keeffe and TJ Bodie, but Boherbue stretched their lead to six points, entering the final water break. Late points from TJ Bodie and Michael Cottrell proved to be in vain, as Boherbue ran out 1-10 to 3-12 winners on the night.
