Late Surge Helps Newmarket Reach The 2018 JAHL Duhallow Final
Newmarket defeated Kilbrin in the Duhallow JAHL Semi Final with the scoreboard showing, Newmarket 1-19 vs. Kilbrin 3-10. The game was played June 8th in Meelin.
A thrilling contest from start to finish, Newmarket began brightest, racing into a five point lead with Hannon, Browne, Stokes and R O’Keeffe hitting early scores. This didn’t seem to phase Kilbrin who eventually got up to the pace of the game and rattled the Newmarket net twice in quick succession. The game had quickly changed and Newmarket were now chasing the lead. Young Crowley and Browne split the Kilbrin posts just before the break, reducing the margin to three at the break, Kilbrin 2-05, Newmarket 0-08.
The teams exchanged points early in the second half, before substitute Niall Collins hit the Kilbrin net. Unfortunately for Newmarket, this was short lived and Kilbrin had the ball in the back of the Newmarket goal quickly after. The scoreboard now showed Newmarket 1-14 V Kilbrin 3-10 with 55 minutes played. This didn’t seem to affect the Newmarket side as three consecutive scores coming from John Ryan, Hannon and Stokes put Newmarket back into the lead. Newmarket continued with the high tempo and another super score from young Browne and a tap over from the Veteran Kevin O’Sullivan all but sealed the victory.
Newmarket now progress to the Duhallow JAHL Final.
