Clinical Knocknagree Beat Young Newmarket Side
Newmarket side which showed two debutants, Darragh Lynn and Ben Newman, were defeated in the Duhallow U21A Championship round 1 Knocknagee 4-11 V Newmarket 0-10. The game was played February 23rd in Knocknagree.
The home side opened the scoring after 4 minutes; however it was quickly cut out by a Ryan O’Keeffe point. The teams traded points once again, however with 15 minutes played Knocknagree struck the net and lead on a score-line of 1-03 to 0-03. Newmarket playing against a strong breeze had to work hard to get the ball to the forwards and the teams once again traded points, before the home side hit Newmarket with a sucker punch after 23 minutes when they rattled the away teams net twice in a matter of seconds. Knocknagree lead on a score line of 3-6 to 0-05 at half time.
Knocknagree started the second half the way they finished the first and once again rattled the Newmarket net for the first score of the second half. The away side now playing with the wind which allowed them to hit the inside forwards more and diagonal balls from Cathal Browne and Aidan Browne proving difficult for the Knocknagrree defence to deal with. After 45 minutes a long range free from O’Keeffe left the scoreboard showing Knocknagree 4-08 to Newmarket 0-08. The teams continued to trade scores for the remainder of the game and the final score showed Knocknagree 4-11 V Newmarket 0-10.
