Strong Newmarket Finish See’s off Tullylease
A strong Newmarket finish was enough to finish off Tullylease in round 6 of the Duhallow hurling league at Priory Park.
Tullylease who boasted several players from the Lismire Gaa club after a recent amalgamation posed a threat against Newmarket throughout. Both teams traded scores in the opening period with Donal Hannon’s side line cut the stand out score. And it was Hannon who kept Newmarket in touch from placed balls as Newmarket trailed 0-7 to 0-5 after 22 minutes. Conor O’Keeffe registered Newmarket’s first score from play in the 24th minute. Tullylease responded with two points of their own before Hannon from a free and Conor O’Keeffe from place left both team evenly match at the half time interval. The scoreboard read Newmarket 0-9 Tullylease 0-9.
Newmarket started the second half brightly with Paudie Allen registering a white flag in the 31st minute. Both teams traded scores with Donal Hannon again on target from placed balls. In the 42nd minute Tullylease scored a mazy run through the Newmarket was finished with a kick to the back of the net. Tullylease now led 1-11 to 0-12. Newmarket responded with brilliantly with Hannon on target from play and from two place balls. Tullylease managed to draw level one more but this score line was short lived as Hannon and O’Keeffe found the target again. Shane Murphy scored a fine point in the final minute ensured Newmarket left with the winning point. The final score line read Newmarket 0-19 Tullylease 1-13
