Convincing Ballingeary too good for Newmarket

Newmarket were beaten comprehensively by Ballingeary in the First Round of the Premier Intermediate Championship played in Macroom last Sunday afternoon.

Newmarket made a bright start as Kevin O’Sullivan found the target after 26 seconds. Ballingeary responded with a point before Tim Murphy fired over in the 6th minute. Ballingeary scored the next two points and struck for a goal in the 11th minute as a long high delivery deceived goal keeper Shane McAuliffe. Ballingeary started to get a strong grip on the game and recorded a further two scorers. Daniel Culloty replied from a free in the 25th minute and from play in the 29 minute. Ballingeary had an answer for everything Newmarket through at them and responded to every Newmarket score . The half time score line read Newmarket 0-5 Ballingeary 1-8.

Ballingeary scored the first two points of the second half before Daniel Culloty responded with a free. A last ditch save from Jack Guiney saved Newmarket’s skin in the 42nd minute. Daniel Culloty registered two more points from placed balls as Newmarket struggled to get any foothold in the game. In the 44 minute Newmarket received a killer blow which ended the game as a contest a Ballingeary recorded their second goal. Two minutes later saw a devastating run by a Ballingeary half back straight through the Newmarket defence and he was on hand to blast to the net. John Ryan responded with a point in the 49 minute and Conor O’Keeffe got a consolidation goal in the 51st minute. John Ryan again responded with a point in the 53 minute . Ballingeary confirmed their superiority with a 4 point blitz in the closing minutes. The final score line read Newmarket 1-09 Ballingeary 3-15 . Newmarket now face the losers of Bantry and Mallow in the next round
