Newmarket record another win in Division 2 League
Newmarket Premier Intermediate footballers recorded another league win as they defeated Dohenys at Priory Park.
The first score of the game came on the 9th as Newmarket’s Conor O’Keeffe raised a whit flag from a placed ball. In the 16th minute a defence splitting pass from Daniel Culloty placed Conor O’Keeffe through on goal and he slotted clinically to the net. Dohenys registered their first point in the 19th minute to leave a goal between the sides. Another free from O’Keeffe and a superb point from Culloty was followed by a white flag from Dohenys to leave 4 points between the sides at half time. Newmarket 1-03 Dohenys 0-2
Newmarket started the second half brightly and Alan Ryan was on hand to kick a superb point in the 32nd minute. Daniel Culloty followed with a point before Dohenys raised two white flags of their own to leave 4 points between the sides one more, Daniel Culloty was on hand from a placed ball once again before Dohenys responded with two more points to cut the gap to three. Resolute defending from the Newmarket backs ensured this was as close as Dohenys got to the Newmarket lead. Daniel Culloty and Conor O’Keeffe were on hand one more to raise white flags. Dohenys did manage to score two more points and hit the cross bar to give Newmarket a mini scare but it was all in vain as Newmarket ran out winners.
