Newmarket progress to Semi-Final of Tom Creedon
Newmarket progressed to the semi- final of the Tom Creedon cup with a win against Nemo Rangers.
The game took place at the famous Cork city club on a bitter spring evening with conditions extremely tough.
Newmarket started this game brightly with the opening two scores coming from Conor O’Keeffe and Darren O’ Keeffe. Nemo replied with three scores of their own to take the lead 0-3 to 0-2 after twenty minutes. Newmarket replied with a definitive scoring burst in a ten minute period before half time with Daniel Culloty slotting a placed ball and a score from play. Barry O’Connor followed this with another point and goal after a neat one two with Bart Daly. The score line at half time read Newmarket 1-05 Nemo Rangers 0-3.
Newmarket playing into a stiff breeze in the second half faced an uphill battle to retain their lead. Nemo Rangers got out of the traps quickly in the second half by registering two consecutive points inside the first five minutes. However another key score occurred in the 37th minute as clinical goal poacher Barry O’Connor was on hand once again to raise a green flag for Newmarket. Nemo Rangers scored 1-2 with reply to leave Newmarket leading by one point with time running up. Conor O’Keeffe kicked a fine final point to ensure Newmarket progressed on a score line of 2-06 to 1-07. Newmarket now meet Mallow in the semi-final.
