Newmarket Premier Intermediate Footballers hosted Macroom in the first game at Priory Park in 2016 in a Division 2 league game.

This was a repeat of last year’s fiery championship meeting which saw players sent off from both teams. Macroom started the brighter and their energetic start was rewarded as they kicked two points inside the first two minutes. Conor O’Keeffe replied for Newmarket on the fifth minute, but it was Macroom who looked more dangerous and led by 0-6 to 0-3 at Half Time. Daniel Culloty and Conor O’Keeffe kicked the remaining scores in the first half.

Newmarket started the second half brightly with Bart Daly who gave a fine display in the art of high fielding throughout kicked a fine score with his trusty left leg, Another point by Conor O’Keeffe left Newmarket trailing by a point five minutes into the second period. However the key score of the game occurred on the 38th minute as a Macroom substitute finished coolly past Newmarket goalkeeper Shane McAuliffe to leave four points between the sides. Daniel Culloty responded with a free but it was Macroom who took the game by the scruff of the neck kicking four unanswered points, three more points from Daniel Culloty were only in consolation as Macroom ended up winners on a score line of 1-10 to 0-9 Points
