Newmarket beat the Blues
Newmarket premier intermediate footballers got back to winning ways with a win over Bantry Blues in Division 2 Football League.
The opening period saw both teams trade scores with Conor O’Keeffe on target from a place ball and from play to leave the sides deadlocked on 0-2 points apiece after ten minutes. It took 14 minutes for the next score to arrive in the game with as Daniel Culloty split the posts with a free. Two minutes later Barry O’Connor collected the ball on the Bantry 13 metre line and sent a delicious chip over the head of the Bantry goalkeeper after some good build up play from Darren O’Keeffe and Bart Daly. Two more Bantry frees left Newmarket leading at half time on a score line of 1-03 to 0-4 points.
The second half had barely resumed when Bantry failed to clear their lines in defence which resulted in O’Connor again blasting the net. Bantry responded to this setback by kicking two more points with Conor O’Keeffe responding for Newmarket. Two more Bantry frees left the game nicely balanced as Newmarket lead by two points with fifteen minutes to play. Again it was Conor O’Keeffe (who kicked 0-8 points the previous evening for Robert Emmet’s in the Duhallow U-21 championship) to dampen the Bantry challenge by kicking two fine points from play. Further scores from Kevin O’Sullivan and Daniel Culloty ensured Newmarket left with two league points.
The final score line read Newmarket 2-08 Bantry 0-9
