Late Robert Emmet’s scoring spree downs Millstreet
Robert Emmet’s began their defence of the Duhallow U-21 Championship with a win against a brave Millstreet played in heavy underfoot conditions in Newmarket.
A fired up Millstreet started brightly and led 1-4 to no score after 15 minutes. Daniel Culloty and Conor O’Keeffe scored from placed balls to register Newmarket’s first scores. O’Keeffe again from play left Robert Emmet’s trailing at the Interval by a score line of 1-5 to 0-3.
Robert Emmet’s again started the second half slowly as Millstreet kicked a further two points as they led 1-07 to 0-3 after 35 minutes. Robert Emmet’s comeback began in earnest on the 36th minute as the superb Conor O’Keeffe kicked three points in as many minute. Two points from Barry O’Connor and O’Keeffe again left Robert Emmet’s trailing by a solitary point with 15 minutes to play. Millstreet began to fight back as they scored two more points to lead by three. Two points from Daniel Culloty and an O’Keeffe free drew Robert Emmet’s level for the first time since the throw in with seven minutes remaining. A further point from O’Keeffe and a Culloty free secured a great comeback. Strong performances from Jack Guiney, Alan Ryan, Conor O’Keeffe and Barry O’Connor lead to a dramatically improved performance in the second half.
