Newmarket Advance in Tom Creedon Cup

Newmarket continued their bright start to 2016 with hard fought victory over Kildorrery in the second round of the Tom Creedon Cup.

Newmarket started confidently as they lead 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes with a superb point from Darren O’Keeffe and two well taken scores by Daniel Culloty. The game was played in difficult conditions and this showed on the scoreboard as Newmarket led 0-4 to 0-2 at the half time interval.

In what was a tight and tense affair both teams continued to trade blows with Newmarket remaining in front with two points each from Barry O’Connor and Conor O’Keeffe to lead by 0-9 to 0-7 with 10 minutes remaining. The decisive score came in the 52nd minute when Barry O’Connor broke through Kildorrery defence to rattle a shot at the Kildorrey keeper who could only parry the shot back into the path of O’Connor who buried the rebound. Only minutes later Colin O’Sullivan wrapped up proceedings with a nice finish over the head of Kildorrery keeper. They game ended 2-9 to 0-7 in favour of Newmarket.

Newmarket now progress to meet the winners of Millstreet/Nemo Rangers in the quarter final.
