Impressive Newmarket start 2016 with an emphatic win
Newmarket Premier Intermediate Footballers got there 2016 campaign under way with strong win over neighbours Rockchapel in the first round of the Tom Creedon Cup.
Newmarket started extremely well with Daniel Culloty kicking three points in the opening ten minutes as they went up 0-03 to 0-00. Tony O Keeffe in his 18th year playing for Newmarket blasted a powerful shot past the Rockchapel keeper to make it 1-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Some slack defending allowed Rockchapel to score a goal in the 18th minute however this was the only blip on an otherwise dominant defensive showing for the Newmarket back line. Conor O Keeffe and Daniel Culloty kept the scoreboard ticking over from placed balls as Newmarket’s quality and skill began to show on a difficult playing surface. The ever elusive Barry O Connor raised a green flag for Newmarket on the 26th minute and Gavin Forde kicked a superb point from wing back to give Newmarket a commanding lead of 2-9 to 1-2 at half time.
The second half continued in similar fashion with points from Tony O Keeffe, Conor O Keeffe, Aidan Browne, and Daniel Culloty. Barry O Connor found the net again to confirm Newmarket’s dominance. The game ended 3-16 to 1-6 in favour of Newmarket, who now play Kildorrery in the second round.
