Robert Emmetts advance to U21 A Football Final
Robert Emmetts u21 Footballers advance to their first Duhallow Final at this grade after they defeated Millstreet last Saturday on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-5.
Emmetts got off to a dream start when their top marksman Barry O’ Connor goaled within a minute. Emmetts kept the pressure on their opponents and a succession of fine long range points followed from the boot of Mikey Cottrell, Barry O’ Connor and Daniel Culloty. Millstreet eventually found themselves on the scoreboard, but points from Conor O’ Keeffe, Culloty and a fine individual effort from Alan Ryan had Emmetts further in front. Good defensive work by Paudie Allen, Gavin Forde and Aidan Browne kept Millstreet scores to a minimum, and the half ended as it began for Emmetts after O’ Connor bagged his second goal of the match to leave the score 2-11 to 1-1 at the short whistle.
Millstreet started the second half the brighter and kicked the first 2 points of the half before Emmetts regained their composure through points by O’ Keeffe and Cottrell. Millstreet added another but Emmetts quickly answered after a great work by Forde and Hannon allowed Culloty to grab his sides third goal of the game and dampen any hope of a Millstreet revival. Emmetts were now in total control and this was further aided by points to Mike Mc Sweeney, Culloty and the hard working O’ Keeffe. The final whistle followed leaving Emmets victors on a full time scoreline of 3-18 to 2-05.
Emmetts now face Boherbue in the decider this Friday night 27th in Knocknagree at 8pm.
