O’Connor goals pave to way to victory
Newmarket made it two wins from two following an impressive victory over senior opponents Dohenys on a scoreline of 4-08 to 0-12.
Scores were at a premium in the first twenty minutes as both sides were guilty of some wayward shooting, it was Tony O’ keeffe who opened the scoring for Newmarket and two further points from frees through the boot of TJ Bodie had Newmarket level 3 points apiece with 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Good work by Kevin O’ Sullivan allowed corner forward Barry O’ Connor to slot home passed the advancing keeper and half finished with John Lane finding himself in space to slot over a fine point to leave it 1-4 to 5 in favour of Newmarket.
Dohenys were first on the scoreboard in the second half kicking two fine scores. Minutes later a lovely free flowing move involving substitute Conor O’ Keeffe picking out Alan Ryan with a sublime pass, which resulted in the industrious Midfielder finding the net with an unstoppable shot. Dohenys found themselves right back in it again with three further points without reply. But it was the turn of the prolific corner forward Barry O’ Connor to put daylight between the teams again as he bagged himself two goals in as many minutes.
