Emmetts through to first Invitational Cup Final
Robert Emmetts are through to their first ever Invitational Cup Final after a 3-06 to 2-05 win over Gneeveguilla played in a very windy Knocknagree.
Emmetts playing with the aid of a stronge breeze in the first half got a of to a great start with Donal Hannon kicking over a fine point from distance. A rather fortuitous goal followed from Culloty after his free found the back of the Gneeveguilla net following a mistake by their goalie. With conditions playing havoc, scores were at a premium but a fine solo effort from Hannon saw Emmetts lead 1-03 to 0-00 before Gneeveguilla got off the mark with two points of their own. Emmetts saw their lead increase with three further points thanks to the hardworking Alan Ryan and Jacko Flaherty winning key possession with Hannon (0-1) and Barry O’ Connor (0-2) profiting. At the short whistle it was 1-05 to 0-04 in favour of Emmetts.
Gneeveguilla started the second half the brightest scoring a fine goal of their own after splitting the Emmetts defence with some great passing moves. Good work from Mike Mc Sweeney allowed Barry O’ Connor in, to score a superb goal to leave 4 between the sides at the halfway stage of the second half. Gneeveguilla tacked on another point before Aidan Browne broke from the Emmetts defence to find himself on the end of a great team move and finish cooly to the net. Conor O’ Keeffe rounded off the scoring with another point leaving it Emmetts 3-06 Gneeveguilla 2-05. Emmets through to their first ever Duhallow u21 Invitational Cup Final.
