Our players were represented on Duhallow teams as well, with Denis O’Brien acting as a selector on Duhallow senior football team. Another of our players Jamie Hayes had the unique honor of bringing home an all-Ireland ploughing championship title.

Tony O’Keeffe achieved a club milestone by playing 100th championship game on the first teams in hurling and football at adult level a huge achievement.

Our U21 hurlers were defeated in championship final, our junior b footballers were also defeated in league final, while our intermediate footballers maintained their division two status in county league.

Away from the playing scene the official opening of astro turf pitch at our grounds was a massive highlight and tremendous credit to our development officer Dan O’Roirdan and his committee in Newmarket sports and leisure for their herculean efforts in completing this project in such a short duration, this incorporates a hurling wall and a handball alley and is there for future generations to come.

The club also put in place also a code of conduct and thanks to Liz O’Connor for her massive contribution in the putting in place of this importantdocument which is on display in our club rooms.

The club hosted the Ducon cup final and also hosted the cork GAA clubs draw in late June, both these events were wonderful showpieces for our club and both Duhallow board and county board officers complimented our club on our wonderful facilities now in place.

The club received a sports council grant of €50,000 as well as grants from cork county council.
The club lotto and co board draw as well as membership remain our source of income and our club is indebted to all who support us in these difficult times.

The highlight of the playing season was the victory of our junior a hurlers in the Duhallow league at Kanturk on Saturday June 7th . In qualifying for their first decider in 31 years, they won seven of their nine games, losing out to Tullylease and drawing with Millstreet. So it was Tullylease who provided the opposition in the final, and amid emotional scenes, the black and red emerged triumphant on a 2-17 to 2-14 scoreline. So it fell to Tony O’Keeffe to accept the trophy afterwards. It was the clubs 8th win in the league, thus joining the sides of 1959,1969,1973/74,1976/77,and 1983.

In the championship once again Tullylease provided the opposition, at on June 22nd, and after a disappointing display, Newmarket lost out in a 1-8/1-13 score. That defeat saw us then face Millstreet in round two, and after an epic contest at Banteer on July 18th , that went into extra time Newmarket proved victorious 3-22 to 2-23 with Donal Hannon shooting 2-12(18pts). In the quarter final at Banteer on July 26th, the champions and county finalists Kilbrin proved stern opponents, and their vast experience proved too much, with Newmarket losing out 2-10/1-20. Kilbrin eventually went on to win their fourth successive title.

Newmarket lost out to Ballinora at Ballincollig in a Duhallow/Muskerry league play off on a 1-10/2-11 scoreline on October 11th.

The junior b hurlers had a disappointing league campaign suffering major defeats against Freemount 1-8/2-17, Meelin 1-6/2-26, and Kilbrin 1-19/6-14 in their three outings. However at our home ground on September 6th, Newmarket put up a gallant performance in the championship before losing out to Banteer 4-10/2-20.

In hurling in 2014, 21 games were played, won 11 drew 1 lost 9.
