Newmarket GAA AGM 2012
The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place in the Clubhouse meeting room on Sunday last. Outgoing chairman Victor Lane welcomed those present before the minutes of the previous years AGM were read and adapted.
Life President, Con Collins in his address thanked all who contribute to running the club and to the juvenile club who continue to do trojan work in developing young players.
Club Secretary, Conor O’Sullivan gave an account of the clubs activities both on and off the field during the year. Amongst the highlights were the senior footballers’ championship victory over Aghada and their promotion to Division 2 of the County Football League having contested the Division 3 League Final, after finishing top of the table following a very productive season. The junior hurling team made significant strides as they recorded two championship victories on their way to reaching the Duhallow semi final. The year saw Newmarket and Lismire amalgamate as Robert Emmets at under 21 level where the hurlers progressed to a Duhallow Final and the footballers also contested a B final. Brian O’Riordan, John Lane, John Ryan and selector Danny Culloty were congratulated for their involvement with the Cork junior football team during the season.
Club Treasurer, Neilie McCarthy presented a comprehensive report of the clubs finances which once again provided a very high turnover. He thanked all who subscribe to financing the club and the vital role of the clubs weekly lotto in the clubs overall running.
Outgoing Chairman, Victor Lane paid tribute to fellow club officers and committee members. He thanked numerous people for their help and input during the year. He reflected on several aspects of the club with the hosting of the Duhallow Football Final in September and the installation of the new electronic scoreboard significant highlights. The juvenile and ladies football clubs were commended for their input to the club while club sponsors Newmarket Motors were once more thanked for their generous sponsorship. He reflected on the sad passing of former Club Officer, committee member and selector, the very popular Jim Fitzgerald, as well as former Parish Priest, Fr. Anthony Cronin and former player Michael Collins.
Juvenile Club Chairman, Billy Newman addressed the meeting and thanked all who support the club financially. Ladies Football Club Chairman, Michael Lynch, wished the club well and remarked on the recent formation of a ladies junior football team..
County Board Delegate, Nelius Collins spoke on developments at County Board level before presiding over the election of officers for 2013.

Outgoing senior football coach Danny Culloty and fellow selectors Donal O’Sullivan and Danny Hourigan were lauded for their contribution and achievements over the past two seasons after expressing a wish to step down from their roles. Club Chairman, Victor Lane completed the meeting with a prayer for all deceased members.
