Newmarket GAA AGM 2011
The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place in the Clubhouse meeting room on Sunday last. Outgoing chairman Victor Lane welcomed those present before the minutes of the previous years AGM were read and adapted.
Life President, Con Collins in his address reflected on the wonderful year it was for the club in claiming the Premier Intermediate Football Championship and in the process attaining senior status for 2012. He thanked all who contribute to running the club and the community at large for getting right behind the club in the build up to the county final.
Club Secretary, Conor O’Sullivan gave an account of the clubs activities both on and off the field during the year. The obvious highlight of the year was the momentous achievement in winning the county final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on October 16th, while the junior B football team qualified for the Duhallow championship final in which they were narrowly defeated. Bart Daly was congratulated on winning an All Ireland junior football medal with Cork while T.J. Brosnan lined out for the Cork minor footballers.
Club Treasurer, Neilie McCarthy presented a comprehensive report of the clubs finances which once again provided a very high turnover. He thanked all who subscribe to financing the club and the vital role of the clubs weekly lotto in the clubs overall running.
Outgoing Chairman, Victor Lane paid tribute to fellow club officers and his predecessor Liam Lehane. He thanked numerous people for their help and input during the year. He reflected on the never to be forgotten county final, what a proud day it was for all and the sense of achievement with the vast crowd that greeted the team on their return to Newmarket. He thanked Danny Culloty and fellow selectors, Donal O’Sullivan and Danny Hourigan and said it was fitting that a man of Danny Culloty’s calibre brought the club to senior level. The juvenile and ladies football clubs were commended for their input to the club while club sponsors Newmarket Motors were once more thanked for their generous sponsorship.
Fr. Herlihy addressed the meeting and congratulated the club on its achievement. He said it was a great boost for the parish and what a great honour it is to be playing senior. John Murphy, chairman of the Ladies Football Club and Sean Browne, Juvenile Club Secretary also spoke on behalf of their respective clubs.
County Board Delegate, Nelius Collins reflected on the outstanding achievement, the manner in which victory was attained and the fact that the final was played at Páirc Uí Chaoimh added to the occasion. Nelius then presided over the election of officers for 2012.

Under 21 Hurling Selectors: Eamon Moynihan, Danny O’Flynn, Under 21 Football: Peter Foley ( manager), Junior Football: Peter Foley ( manager), Senior Football: Danny Culloty ( manager), Danny Hourigan.
The Newmarket team were awarded with the Corkman/Charleville Park sports star award for the month of October which took its place at the top table along with the Billy Long Cup. Club Chairman, Victor Lane completed the meeting with a prayer for all deceased members.
