Intermediates defeated after long break
Newmarket’s intermediate football team travelled to Cloughduv on Friday evening to play Bantry Blues in their first competitive outing for two months, a league game that ended in defeat by 2-10 to 0-11.
This was Newmarket’s final outing before the crucial Premier Intermediate Football Relegation Play Off Final against Glanmire at Mourne Abbey on Sunday next.
T.J. Bodie scored Newmarket’s first points but a Bantry goal paved the way for an early lead. Newmarket’s other points during the half came from Mark Reidy, Nicky Flanagan and T.J. Bodie but Bantry held a 1-5 to 0-5 lead at the turnover.
Newmarket had points in the second half through T.J. Bodie, Mark Reidy and Denys O’Brien but Bantry added two points during this spell before adding a second goal to leave the score at 2-7 to 0-8. Newmarket failed to reduce the deficit during the remainder of the game as the sides exchanged six points. T.J. Bodie was again on target twice with John Lane also on the score sheet for Newmarket.
