Newmarket’s minor footballers recorded a fine win with a slender one point victory at home to Kanturk by 1-9 to 1-8 in the league on Monday evening.

Newmarket took the lead in the second minute when Luke McCarthy slotted over a free before Kanturk equalized in the fifth minute and they then went in front four minutes later. T.J. Brosnan had Newmarket on level terms with a fine solo point before Timmy O’Keeffe regained Newmarket the lead on finishing expertly to the Kanturk net for what proved to be the games solitary goal.

Kanturk responded and turned the contest firmly in their favour by adding a goal and four points without reply to enjoy a four point advantage. Luke McCarthy pointed next for Newmarket but Kanturk restored their four point lead by adding the next score. However, it was Newmarket who responded at this stage with points from Luke McCarthy, T.J. Brosnan and Gavin Forde. Vinny Molloy had the sides on level terms before Newmarket sealed a fine win with Nicky Barrett adding what proved to be the games winning point.
