A grandstand finish, which crucially yielded two goals and a point enabled Newmarket to record a fine league win away to Glanmire on Friday evening last with the game ending 2-14 to 0-13 after an open entertaining contest.
Despite a gallant showing, Newmarket’s minor hurlers were defeated by St. Mark’s in their first outing of the year in a league game played at Meelin on Thursday evening with the final score reading 3-15 to 2-6.
Newmarket were narrowly defeated by Lyre in their second outing of the minor football league in a fine contest played at Banteer on Wednesday evening where the home side emerged victors by the slenderest of margins, 1-10 to 1-9.
Newmarket’s junior hurlers suffered defeat in their initial league outing of the season, where they went under to a sharp and lively Meelin side by 1-23 to 3-5 at the latter’s venue on Tuesday evening.
Newmarket’s intermediate football team recorded their second successive league victory with a very comprehensive victory over Killavullen by 3-16 to 0-5 at Kilbrin on Saturday evening.
The Intermediate’s won their first league game of the season on Sunday last when they recorded a comprehensive victory over Adrigole in ideal conditions in Newmarket on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-8 points.
Newmarket’s minor football team began their league campaign with a well earned victory away to St. Peter’s at Rockchapel on Wednesday evening last by 1-11 to 0-8.
