Intermediates suffer defeat
Newmarket suffered a heavy defeat away to Nemo Rangers in Division 3 Intermediate football league on Sunday and came out the wrong side of a 1-15 to 0-4 scoreline.
The home side played with the aid of a very strong breeze in the first half and within thirty seconds some slick passing resulted with the ball being put into the back of the Newmarket net. A varying range of point kicking followed from various distances and angles as the home side utilised their advantage to the full and by the end of the first quarter they added six points to their tally. Newmarket struggled to get past the halfway line in the conditions and the city side went on to score a further four points to build up a thirteen point lead by the halfway mark.
Newmarket turned around and eventually got on the scoreboard when T.J. Bodie pointed from distance in the second minute. Nemo coped much better playing into the breeze and made their dominance pay by scoring fife points in succession. On what proved to be a very forgettable outing for Newmarket they kept plugging away and Bart Daly strode forward from the half back line to kick two superb points from long range. T.J. Bodie completed the scoring with another fine score but it all proved mere consolation.
