Former parish curate passes away
It was with great sadness that news broke on Saturday of the passing away of former parish curate and club chairman, Fr. Con O’Shea.
Fr. O’Shea arrived in Newmarket in the early nineties and joined the clubs committee in 1991. He then became chairman of the club the following year for a two year term, succeeding Liam Lehane. During his tenure Newmarket regained the Duhallow junior football title in 1993 after a lapse of twenty three years. He then presided as vice chairman for two years and also served as a selector on the junior hurling team.
Fr. O’Shea was extremely popular with all in the club, both committee and especially the players, who held him in high regard. When he left the parish, he kept up to date with the clubs affairs, often in contact with his wide circle of friends and relations within the parish.
Before the clubs opening fixture of the season, the Ducon Cup clash between Dromtariffe and Newmarket, a minutes silence was observed. To all Fr. O’Shea’s family and friends the club extends its deepest sympathies. Ar a dheis De go maibh a anam.
