Newmarket have been drawn to meet Knocknagree in the opening round of the Duhallow under 21 football championship, in a repeat of last years semi final. On that occasion Newmarket emerged victorious in an excellent contest by 0-16 to 1-9 at Cullen on March 24th, on their way to claiming the title.

Back in 2005 the sides contested the Duhallow minor football league final. In another exciting game, Newmarket emerged narrow victors by 1-13 to 3-5 at Knocknagree on November 13th. It promises to be another tight encounter, which will probably take place on the week ending February 24th. Kanturk, Lyre and Dromtariffe are the other teams in the competition.

The playing season is set to commence on the week ending February 10th, starting with round one of the Ducon Cup.
