Junior footballers beaten by Millstreet
Millstreet brought an end to Newmarket’s four win game winning streak in the Ducon Cup when they recorded a comprehensive home victory by 2-15 to 0-8 on Friday evening last.
Newmarket began brightly and had early points through Shane Murphy and T.J. Bodie. However, Millstreet hit back with a point and a fifth minute goal. Bart Daly pointed next for Newmarket but Millstreet went on to score five points in succession in a fifteen minute spell. T.J. Bodie and Barry O’Leary responded with points for Newmarket but a Millstreet point left the score at half time reading 1-7 to 0-5 in the home sides favour.
Newmarket got right back into contention in the third quarter and points from Timothy Murphy, Shane Murphy and Gerard Casey reduced the deficit to just two points. Millstreet however turned on the style in the final quarter and after a point was followed by a forty eighth minute goal, they went on to score a highly impressive seven points in the final ten minutes to comfortably claim the two points.
