Junior footballers claim league points against Castlemagner
Newmarket’s junior footballers claimed their first points in this years Ducon Cup after a good home victory over Castlemagner by 0-10 to 0-6 on Friday evening last.
Newmarket started in flying fashion with Michael Kenneally scoring a brace of points, one either side of a John Cronin double, to put Newmarket four points in front after only seven minutes. Castlemagner pointed next but a John Ryan points restored Newmarket’s advantage. Castlemagner had a good spell at this stage which yielded three points to reduce the deficit to a solitary point after eighteen minutes. Timothy Murphy then pointed with what proved to be the final score of the half to leave the score 0-6 to 0-4 at the halfway mark.
John Cronin knocked over two quick fire points after the resumption before Castlemagner got their next score. John Cronin pointed again as the sides exchanged scores at the three quarter mark. Timothy Murphy’s second point gave Newmarket once again a four point lead and this proved to be the final score and margin at the end.
Newmarket were well served by their midfielders Gerard Casey and Shane Murphy, while Paul Cashman had an impressive debut in a very solid backline.
