Junior hurlers began league campaign with defeat away to Tullylease
Newmarket’s junior hurlers began their league campaign with defeat away to Tullylease by 2-10 to 1-3 in ideal conditions on Sunday last.
The home side hit three points in the first ten minutes before the games opening goal arrived in the sixteenth minute. Newmarket despite good passages of play, struggled to make an impact and convert chances into scores. Tullylease scored four more points during the half to turnover in front by 1-7 to 0-0.
Tullylease pointed within a minute of the restart before Michael Kenneally opened Newmarkets account following some good teamwork throughout the field. Tullylease pointed next but Newmarket were boosted when after a fine solo run, Kevin O’Sullivan’s powerful shot was well saved, but the rebound was finished to the net by Robert Stack. Tullylease replied with a goal of their own six minutes later before Barry O’Leary pointed a free for Newmarket. The sides went on to exchange a couple of points before the finish, with Barry O’Leary again on target.
Newmarket played with much endeavour and were well served by John Ryan, John McSweeney, Tony O’Keefee, Robert Stack and Kevin O’Sullivan.
