Minor footballers draw in first league outing
Newmarkets minor footballers hung on for a draw at windswept Bweeng on Monday evening, to draw in their first league outing of the campaign, 2-4 to 1-7 against Kilshannig.
Newmarket aided by the elements in the opening half got points from John Ryan and Alan Forde before John Lane scored two goals and two points. This left Newmarket in front by 2-4 to 1-1 at half time.
The home side dominated the second half with Newmarket grateful to a superb display from goalkeeper Ian Flanagan, who pulled off a string of top class saves. Paul Cashman excelled in defence with Robert Stack also prominent. Eventually, Kilshannig finally gained parity in the final minute to share the spoils in extremely difficult conditions.
