U-21 Hurlers out of Championship
Newmarkets under 21 hurlers were knocked out of the championship by a strong Tullylease side 2-15 to 1-9 at Freemount on Friday evening last.
Tullylease stormed out of the blocks hitting three points in as many minutes. They built up a seven point lead before claiming the games opening goal in the twelvth minute. Two more points were added before Newmarket eventually got off the mark thanks to a Shane Anthony Murphy point after twenty minutes. John Lane added a second but a Tullylease point left the score reading 1-10 to 0-2 at the halfway mark.
Tullylease resumed with an instant point with John Lane then hitting a brace of points for Newmarket. Nicky Flanagan and T J Bodie scored as Newmarket showed a marked improvement. Tullylease kept their big lead intact but Newmarket performed well to the end with Kevin O’Sullivan pointing twice and John Lane also on target during the half. Tullylease struck a late goal but Newmarket rounded off the game when Michael Kenneally found the net with the final piece of action of the game.
